Authentic Indian food is sometimes hard to come by. Once you find a place you love, stick to it. Utsav is that place for us. We came across Utsav a few years ago and have since gone back so many times, it would be hard to count.

Utsav is a smaller restaurant, located near a subway stop, in the very exclusive area of Yorkville in Toronto. While it’s surrounding restaurants are generally very expensive, Utsav is quite the contrast. A vegan meal is only around $10 CAD, with rice costing $4 CAD, thus offering a much more affordably priced dining experience that it’s neighbors, without sacrificing the ambience and location. The atmosphere at Utsav can be described as “tasteful comfort”. wpid-2015-08-17-02.03.34-1.jpg.jpeg

Utsav is family owned, which is probably one of the reasons the food is so good. Everything is made fresh and the food is so tasty. While I haven’t been to India (yet), this is as authentic as it gets here in Canada and exactly like what I think the food would be like there. With everything being prepared on the spot, the chef is happy to work with any dietary restrictions. There are quite a few vegan options on the menu, with my favorite being the Channa Masala. wpid-2015-08-17-02.03.32-1.jpg.jpegwpid-2015-08-17-02.03.37-1.jpg.jpeg

Along with the Channa Masala, we highly recommend their lentil flat bread, also served as a complimentary appetizer, but not written on the menu. If you ask about it, they will be happy to bring you a separate portion. This flat bread is gluten free and delicious.
