Overall

4631 St Laurent Blvd
Montreal, Quebec

Aux Vivres literally stands for ‘to food’. This restaurant had been recommended to me from quite a few friends. After hearing about it a handful of times, I finally had the opportunity to check it out. I did have very high expectations, as my friends spoke so highly of it and I was not disappointed – it was everything they made it to be and more.

Aux Vivres is separated into 2 parts. On the right you have the restaurant and on the left is a store and take out spot. We made our way to the restaurant and had a seat in a part of the restaurant that has huge skylights on top. It really had a feel of being outside, but with the comfort of the air temperature control of being inside.  They also have a wonderful outdoor patio in the back of the restaurant, pictured below.

The menu at Aux Vivres is plentiful. There is a profusion of items to choose from; literally something for everybody. Boasting smoothies, entrees, bowls, salads, sandwiches, burgers and more, I had a really tough time choosing what I wanted to eat.

I chose the Creamsicle smoothie to start and I was delighted to find it really tasted like one! All of the yumminess, none of the guilt. Then came the Hercules Salad, which has the most perfect vegan tzatziki. It’s exactly how I remember it to be. Creamy, garlicy and full of cucumber. I wish I could have taken some home, it was that good. In fact, I’d go back to Aux Vivres JUST to eat the tzatziki and I would not be surprised if my dreams for the next few weeks feature that garlicy goodness….

At this point, we were stuffed. The portion sizes are very large and the salad was more than enough for one person’s meal. I had, however, ordered the Macro Bowl, so I dug into that as well. It was also delicious! The seaweed was a nice touch for me, although word of advice: if you don’t love seaweed, stay away from this bowl as the taste can be a little over bearing. I ended up having to pack up a lot of my salad and a lot of my bowl, but I was not complaining. It made for great breakfast the next day!

Of course I had to get desert. (Sorry, not sorry.) I ordered the chocolate banana pie and it was to. die. for. Small slice, but the perfect amount to enjoy the desert without pushing you over the sugar line. I’d definitely order it again.

Everything I ordered was completely gluten free.

The service was great at Aux Vivres, although our server did keep forgetting we spoke English, not French. I can speak a little French, so it was ok – we were able to get by. The menu comes in both languages, which I liked and all of the servers were really  open to accommodating both languages. On the menu, every item is clearly marked either gluten free, soy free or nut free, making this restaurant extremely allergy friendly.

Prices are not cheap at Aux Vivres, although they are on par with most vegan restaurants of this type. Smoothies are around $5, bowls are around $13 and salads are around $14. Please refer to the menu on their website for exact prices.
